Yading (亚丁), also called Daocheng Yading (稻城亚丁), is celebrated as the "Last Pure Land on Earth" and the "Last Shangri-La." Its fame began with Joseph Rock, who photographed its stunning landscapes in 1928, featured in National Geographic. Later, the novel Lost Horizon by James Hilton popularized its mystical charm.
Dear Lykkers, surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains, ancient glaciers, dense forests, shimmering lakes, and verdant grasslands, Yading captivates travelers and shutterbugs alike. It's a haven of natural wonders and spiritual significance for local Tibetans, offering not only breathtaking views but also a soulful connection with nature.
Yading Nature Reserve boasts an array of stunning sights, including towering snow mountains, pristine lakes, idyllic pastures, and traditional Tibetan villages. Here are the highlights:
The three snow mountains—Chianrezig, Jambeyang, and Chanadorje—are sacred to the local Tibetan community. These peaks form a triangular formation and serve as the spiritual core of Yading.
● Mount Chianrezig (Xiannairi): Representing the Bodhisattva of Mercy, this is the tallest of the three at 6,032m. Its golden glow at sunrise is a sight to behold.
Photography Tip: Best shot from Pearl Lake early in the morning.
● Mount Jambeyang (Yangmaiyong): Symbolizing wisdom, this 5,958m peak resembles a noble young lady. Joseph Rock described it as the most beautiful mountain he had ever seen.
Photography Tip: Luorong Pasture offers the best views, especially at sunrise.
● Mount Chanadorje (Xianuoduoji): At 5,958m, this pyramid-shaped mountain represents strength and protection.
Photography Tip: Sunset shots from Chonggu Grassland are spectacular.
Yading is home to over 1,000 lakes, each more enchanting than the last.
● Erong Lake (Milk Lake): Nestled at 4,500m, this glacier-fed lake sparkles like a blue gem.
● Danzhen Lake (Five Color Lake): A serene, multicolored lake at 4,600m.
● Pearl Lake: This green and yellow lake, surrounded by vibrant autumn foliage, offers an unforgettable view.
This idyllic spot, at 4,150m, provides the best vantage points for all three holy mountains. It’s also a grazing ground for Tibetan livestock.
This ancient nunnery, established during the Yuan Dynasty, serves as a spiritual center. Joseph Rock once stayed here and marveled at the serene surroundings.
